With nearly twenty years of experience as an environmental consultant, Kat Galloway will discuss the basic principles of environmental sustainability in the oilfield. She will discuss some of the initiatives Bright Sky Environmental has supported with their oil and gas clients as the industry starts to move beyond tackling the “low-hanging fruit.” Emissions reductions, data-driven emissions management, plugging orphaned wells, flaring, and even Bitcoin mining are hot topics that present opportunities for Austin Women in Oil and Gas.
Join us as we welcome back guest speaker Annell Bay with a discussion regarding recent investor activism against Exxon Mobil.
A key ingredient for sustainable consumption of oil and gas for the future is successful management of carbon dioxide emissions. At the Illinois Basin – Decatur Site, CO2 injection into a deep saline reservoir started in 2011. The two projects at this site, a large-scale demonstration and an industrial-scale demonstration, together have successfully injected more than 3 million metric tonnes of CO2 and injection is ongoing. The extensive monitoring program in place at the site provides valuable information for optimizing future monitoring programs, and critical data on the reservoir response to the injected fluid that will aid in selection of future carbon sequestration sites.
This presentation will review 2020’s biggest oil and gas deals, recent deal trends and what last year’s activity can tell us about the state of the industry going into 2021.

Olga Kobzar, with Scott Douglass McConnico, will summarize all of the oil and gas cases decided by the Texas Supreme Court in 2019 and will provide a preview of the granted cases that will be decided in 2020.
The energy transition is sometimes described as the switch from carbon-based fuels to non-carbon fuels. This narrow lens leads to divisive and unproductive political and social discourse by pitting the environment against the economy. In reality, the production of all forms of energy at scale—fossil, nuclear and renewable—impact land, water, local air and atmosphere. And unquestionably, affordable, reliable energy underpins modern economies and has led to unprecedented economic growth and human advancement. Thus, a sustainable transition will happen when all humans are lifted from energy poverty and environmental impacts of all forms of energy are minimized. Rather than creating false dichotomies of “good and bad” and “clean and dirty,” it is vital that the energy dialog be data-driven, and seek compromise and convergence on workable solutions. Fortunately, such solutions exist.
Join us as Annell Bay returns as an encore guest speaker to elaborate on the role of directors on boards. Join us as Tracy Lenz presents an industry primer to oil & gas reserves. Reserves are the estimates of how much oil and or gas is remaining to be recovered by a company. Or better put, how much “inventory” (oil/gas) is in a company’s “warehouse” (reservoir) and ready to sell. Learn more about what reserves are, how they are calculated, what they affect, how value is derived from them, and the things to watch out for.
All backgrounds welcome, no prior knowledge required!
